Advancing Research Computing on Campuses: Best Practices Workshop

The Advanced Research Computing on Campuses (ARCC) workshop is co-locating at PEARC17 this July in New Orleans with the aim of beginning to more broadly integrate with the ongoing PEARC annual conference. To minimize disruption and overlap with the standard program, the ARCC at PEARC will involve a full-day tutorial on Monday, July 10, and then a single parallel track alongside the four paper tracks in the technical program on Tuesday and Wednesday (schedule below), with shared plenaries, breaks, meals and other activities.

The tutorial titled “ARCC Tutorial: Enabling and Advancing Research Computing on Campuses” will provide a broad overview of research computing on campuses including evolving trends in cyberinfrastructure, computing, and people resources on campuses. This open tutorial is intended for those people charged with supporting their campuses' research communities in the use of cyberinfrastructure. This would include CIOs, research computing directors and managers, CI engineers, research facilitators, Sponsored Research Office personnel, and researchers interested in learning more about maintaining, advocating for, and enabling strong research computing resources and enhancing support on your campus. The tutorial will also cover establishing and operating Science DMZs and preparation and submission of campus CI plans and CI-related proposals.

The ARCC track on Tuesday and Wednesday will represent a series of selected lightning talks in four different areas. If you want to present a lightning talk or have a recommendation for a potential talk, please email a short summary of the planned presentation idea and proposed speaker to ARCC17 Chair Thomas Cheatham at the University of Utah (tec3@utah.edu) by May 15. He will notify potential speakers of acceptance.
